In 1996, the Federal Government enacted the Health Insurance Portability
and Accountability
Act, better known as HIPAA. Though there are many
provisions to this sweeping piece of legislation, primary among them are
new rules and guidelines to assist in protecting an individuals' private
health information. These new rules dictated to hospitals, doctors offices,
insurance companies, and Gompers Center, how companies could use and share
confidential information that is kept on premise.
While HIPAA is new to Gompers Center, many of its practices are not. Gompers
Center has always put an emphasis on the confidentiality of our client's
information and taken steps to ensure that confidential information is only
seen by those individuals who have that right. Gompers Center understands
the responsibility it has towards its clients and respects this in every
action
it takes.
With this said, in order to be HIPAA compliant it was necessary for Gompers
Center to create a variety of policies and procedures. Primary among these
is the Notice of Privacy Practices, which explains to our clients what Gompers
Center can and can not do with their confidential information. Effective
April 14, 2004, this Notice is available upon request by asking at the front
desk.
If you have any questions regarding HIPAA, please feel free to contact Gompers
